Solution:

The carbohydrates are divided into three major classes:
  1. Monosaccharides are the basic units of all polysaccharides. They essentially have $C\left(\right.H_{2}O\left(\left.\right)_{n}orC_{n}H_{2 n}O_{n}$ as their composition. Based on number of carbons, they can be triose (glyceraldehyde, and dihydroxyacetone), tetrose (erythrose, threose), pentose (ribose, ribulose, xylose), hexose (glucose, fructose, galactose, mannose), heptose (sedoheptulose), etc. Basically they may be aldo-sugar (like glucose) or keto-sugar (like fructose).
  2. Oligosaccharides are 2-10 monosaccharides bound by glycosidic bonds. They may be disaccharide (with 2-monosaccharide units: maltose), trisaccharide (3-monosaccharide units: Raffinose), tetrasaccharide (4-monosaccharide units: Stachyose) or pentasaccharide (5-monosaccharide units: Verbascose).
  3. Polysaccharides have more than 10 monosaccharides united together.
