The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences, Implemented by IISc, Bangalore. It is initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology Government of India, to attract exceptionally highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in Science. Students interested for pursuing basic science courses and research carieer in science can join the course .
KVPY is divided into 3 streams, SA, SX, SB. SA is for the students of class 11th, SX is for the students of class 12th and SB is for the students who are currently in the first year of the UG program in Basic Sciences.
It is compulsory to attempt both parts in SA stream. On the other hand for SB and SX stream, the candidates can choose any 3 subjects in Part 1 and any 2 subjects in Part 2 |
Selection Process :
Selection of the students is made from those studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having aptitude for scientific research. Special groups / Committees are set up at IISc to screen the applications and conduct an aptitude test at various centres in the country.
Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered.
Generous fellowships are provided up to the pre-Ph.D. level to the selected KVPY Fellows.
KVPY Eligibilty Criteria 2022 :
The KVPY Eligibility Criteria for the different strams are given below , only the qualifying students can apply for the course.
SA Stream
- Students Studying in class 11th are eligible to apply for this course.
- Students who have passed with 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in 10th science and maths subjects are eligible to apply.
- Students who have passed with 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in 12th in total are eligible to apply.
SX Stream
- Students Studying in class 11th are eligible to apply for this course.
- Students who have passed with 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in 10th science and maths subjects are eligible to apply.
- Students who have passed with 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in 12th in total are eligible to apply.
SB Stream
- Students Studying in 1st year of the UG programme/Bachelor’s course in Basic science are eligible to apply for this course.
- Students who have passed with at least 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in total are eligible to apply
Exam Pattern :
In the Stream-SA all questions are compulsory (Science and Mathematics) In respect of the streams SB and SX , there will be four sections in Part I (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) and four sections in Part II (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics). Candidates may answer any THREE of the four subjects in Part I and any TWO of the four subjects in Part II. In case candidate attempts more sections, best of three in Part I and best of two in Part II is considered.

Application :
Application for KVPY-2022 must be done online only
There are three steps to complete your application successfully.
- Registration: you have to kvpy registration in online mode
- Application: Filling personal and academic details, choosing test centres and uploading photo, signature and other certificates, as applicable.
- Payment: of application fees. Please note that you must pay the application fee only at the KVPY application portal. This can be done by using a Credit Card, ATM-Debit Card, UPI or Net Banking. No other means of payment will be accepted. Once the payment is successful and application is submitted, no refund of application fee will be done.
The application fees for KVPY-2022 are as follows : For General/OBC Category: Rs. 1250, For SC/ST/PWD: Rs. 625 (Bank Charges extra)
Admit Card :
Students may download the admit card for the aptitude test from the website from the fourth week of December 2022. Details regarding Examination venue and seat number will be available in the admit card. How to Download the Admit Card :
- Visit the official website of KVPY i.e kvpy.iisc.ernet.in.
- Login with username and password.
- Click on the ‘Admit card’ tab.
- The KVPY admit card will appear on the screen.
- Download the same and take a printout of the same for future references.

Exam Center Rules :
In addition to the admit card, students must bring valid School/College ID or Aadhar Card or Passport with clear photograph. Produce the same to the invigilator on request. Students without the Admit Card and valid ID will not be permitted to appear for the aptitude test.
- You are advised to go over to the examination center at least an hour before the commencement of the test.
- The room numbers in which the test will be conducted will be displayed in each center.
- You are NOT permitted to carry calculators or any electronic devices. Virtual calculators will be made available on the computer screen. You will be provided sheets for rough work.
- Carrying/use of mobile phone, I-pod, portable hard disc, pen drive, data card, pagers inside the examination hall is strictly prohibited and no provisions have been made for their safe custody at test centers.
KVPY 2022 Answer key :
IISc will release the KVPY exam answer key for stream SA, SX/SB in online mode in the official website.
Answer key will be released for all three streams i.e SA, SB and SX separately
For downloading the question paper and the answer key candidates have to first select the stream that they wrote in the KVPY exam 2022.
If candidates finds mistakes in the answer key they can inform to the conducting committee.

KVPY result 2022 will be released on the official website of KVPY i.e. kvpy.iisc.ernet.in. How to check KVPY Result 2022?
- Click on the 'KVPY result' link given above.
- The pdf of merit list will be given stream wise and category wise
- Select stream- SA, SX and SB for your category
- Select ‘’Date of Birth’’ and ‘’application number'' of shortlisted candidates will be displayed.
- Download KVPY 2022 result on finding your name.
- Section-wise scores, overall score with the cut-off marks would be displayed on the screen.
