Jute (Corchorus capsularis) belongs to family-Tiliaceae. It is mostly cultivated in West Bengal. The plants are slender, tall, annual shrubs. The fibres are pale yellow in colour, sikly in luster and often reach upto the length of feet. They are used for making gunny bags, packing cloths, carpets etc.
