H_{2} S O_{4}, H N O_{3}

mixture give a mixture of meta and para isomers. In which meta isomer is the major product. In presence of strong acid

H_{2} S O_{4}, - N (C H_{3})_{2}

group changes into

- N H (C H_{3})_{2}

by accepting proton so, it is a meta directing group.
