Solution:

Nitration of N,N-dimethyl aniline with conc. $H _{2} SO _{4}, HNO _{3}$ mixture give a mixture of meta and para isomers. In which meta isomer is the major product. In presence of strong acid $H _{2} SO _{4},- N \left( CH _{3}\right)_{2}$ group changes into $- NH \left( CH _{3}\right)_{2}$ by accepting proton so, it is a meta directing group.
