Solution:

Ethanol does not react with dilute sodium hydroxide, because the ethoxide ion is the stronger base than the hydroxide ion.
Because of the aq. when reacts with water forms ethoxide ion but due to its basicity it abstract hydrogen reforming alcohol. hence alcohols do not react with the base.
butyne on treatment with sodamide followed by acidification yields 1- butyne because alkynes isomerize on treatment with a strong base.
