Fragmentation is the process of breakdown of detritus, consisting of remains of dead plants and animals, into smaller particles by detrivores like an earthworm. The water-soluble inorganic nutrients obtained from the process of decomposition get precipitated as unavailable salts. This process is known as leaching.
