Only - CH3 can be substituted to the benzene ring in the presence of anhydrous AlCl3 and produce C6H5−CH3 (Toluene).
This is Friedel Craft's Alkylation reaction.
But in the absence of anhydrous AlCl3,−Cl can be substituted to the benzene ring. In Friedel Craft's Alkylation reaction, monoalkyl derivative readily undergoes further alkylation to produce polysubstituted derivatives.
Hence, polysubstitution can take place in this reaction.
