Q. In which reaction, polysubstitution takes place:

Hydrocarbons

Solution:

Only - $CH _{3}$ can be substituted to the benzene ring in the presence of anhydrous $AlCl _{3}$ and produce $C _{6} H _{5}- CH _{3}$ (Toluene).
This is Friedel Craft's Alkylation reaction.
But in the absence of anhydrous $AlCl _{3},- Cl$ can be substituted to the benzene ring. In Friedel Craft's Alkylation reaction, monoalkyl derivative readily undergoes further alkylation to produce polysubstituted derivatives.
Hence, polysubstitution can take place in this reaction.
