We have, $1000kg$ of watermelon in which $99\%$ are water.
$\therefore 990kg$ water and $10kg$ rest.
Now, $x$ kg watermelon has
$=\frac{98}{100}x$ water $+\frac{2x}{100}$ rest
Weight of solid part should remain same
$\therefore \frac{2x}{100}=10\Rightarrow x=500$
$\therefore$ Weight reduction $=(1000-500)kg$
$=500kg$
