Solution:
The energy released during the electron system is utilized in synthesizing ATP with the help of the ATP synthase enzyme (complex V). This complex consists of two major components F1 and F0 . For each ATP produced, 2H+ passes through F0 from the intermembrane space to the matrix down the electrochemical proton gradient. Hence, accordingly, if 12 H+ ions pass then 6 ATP is produced.
