When ethernal solution of PhCH 3 (I), PhNH 2 (II) PhOH (III) is extracted with aqueous NaOH, only PhOH reacts with NaOH to form sodium phenoxide salt which layers separately whereas PhCH 3 and PhNH 2 cannot react with NaOH and lie in ethernal layer.
