Pauling and Corey gave α-helix structure of protein. In this structure, the polypeptide backbone is tightly bound around an imaginary axis drawn longitudinally the middle of the helix and the R groups of amino acids residue protrude outward from the helical bone. Generally, about 1/4 of all amino acid residues in polypetide are found in α-helix.
