Q.
Which one of the following reactions would produce a secondary alcohol?
NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022
Solution:
When acetophenone reacts with lithium aluminium hydride, we get a secondary alcohol. We know that the lithium aluminium hydride is a good reducing agent. It is white flammable solid $LiAlH_{4}$ soluble in ether that is made by the reaction of lithium hydride and anhydrous aluminium chloride and that is used as a reducing agent, especially for organic compounds, as a carboxylic acid to an alcohol.
$C_{6}H_{5}-HC\left(OH\right)-\left(CH\right)_{3}\left(\right.secondaryalcohol\left.\right)$
