Q. Which of the following statement is/are correct?

I. The ligand thiosuphato, $S_{2}O_{3}^{2 -}$ can give rise to linkage isomers.

II. In metallic carbonyls the ligand CO molecule acts both as donor and acceptor.

III. The complex $\left[P t \left(P y\right) \left(N H_{3}\right) \left(N O_{2}\right) C l B r I\right]$ exists in eight different geometrical isomeric forms

IV. The complex ferricyanide ion does not follow effective atomic number (EAN) rule.

Solution:

$S_{2}O_{3}^{2 -}$ can give rise to linkage isomers as it can coordinate through both O and S atoms. Ligand CO molecule acts both as donor and acceptor by donating pi electron and accepting electron form metal into its vacant $\pi ^{*}$ molecular orbital. Hence here I and II are correct and in case of ferricyanide ion effective atomic number is 35 so IV is also correct.
