Q.
Which of the following expressions represents the relation between orbital magnetic moment and orbital angular momentum of an electron ?
AMUAMU 2013Moving Charges and Magnetism
Solution:
When an electron is revolving in orbit then orbital magnetic moment and orbital angular momentum are in opposite direction also
$|\mu_{orb}| = \frac{eh}{4\pi m_e}$
and $|L_{orb}| = \frac{h}{2 \pi}$ (For $n = 1$)
$\therefore $ $\mu_{orb} = - \frac{e}{2m_e} L_{orb}$
