Q. Which can show the cis-trans isomerism?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

Cis-trans isomerism is called as geometrical isomerism, which arises due to restricted rotation of a bond or bonds in a molecule. There are two necessary conditions for a compound to possess geometrical isomerism:
(i) It must contain a carbon-carbon double bond in the molecule.
(ii) Two unlike atoms or groups must be linked to each doubly bonded carbon atoms.
Only $CICH=CHCl$ compound satisfied both the conditions, hence will show cis-trans isomerism. In others, either same atoms or groups are linked to one or each doubly bonded carbon or it does not possess double bond.
