Q. When heated, ammonium carbamate decomposes as follows

$NH_{4}COONH_{2}\left(\right.s\left.\right)\rightleftharpoons2NH_{3}\left(\right.g\left.\right)+CO_{2}\left(\right.g\left.\right)$

At a certain temperature, the equilibrium pressure of the system is 0.318 atm, $K_{p}$ for the reaction is

Solution:

$\underset{E q . p r e s s u r e}{N H_{4} C O O N H_{2} \left(\right. s \left.\right)}\rightleftharpoons\underset{2 P}{2 N H_{3} \left(\right. g \left.\right)}+\underset{P}{C O_{2} \left(\right. g \left.\right)}$

$3P=0.318$

$P=0.106$

$P_{N H_{3}}=2\times 0.106=0.212$

$P_{C O_{2}}=0.106$

$k_{p}=P_{N H_{3}}^{2}.P_{C O_{2}}$

$=0.212\times 0.212\times 0.106=0.00476$

$=4.76\times 10^{- 3}$
