Q. When a dielectric is placed in an electric field, the electric field inside a dielectric

Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance

Solution:

An electric field $\left(E_{i}\right)$ is induced inside the dielectric in a direction opposite to the external field $\left(E_{0}\right)$ due to polarisation. On account of this, the net electric field $(E)$ inside the slab is less than the external field as $E=E_{0}-E_{i}$.
