Q. What should be the equivalent weight of phosphorous acid, if $P=31 ; O=16 ; H=1 ?$

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

The acid is dibasic.

Molecular weight of $H _{3} PO _{3}=3+31+48=82$

$\therefore $ Equivalent weight $=\frac{\text { Molecular weight }}{\text { Basicity }}=\frac{82}{2}=41$
