Q. What result Mendel would have got, had he self-pollinated a tall $ F_{2} $ -plant?

AMUAMU 2014Principles of Inheritance and Variation

Solution:

The Fi-generation on crossing a homozygous tall $(TT)$ plant to a dwarf plant $(tt)$ consisted of all hybrid tall $(Tt)$ plants. In $F_{2}$-generation, when $F_{1}$-generation $(Tt)$ was self-pollinated the phenotype ratio of tall to dwarf is about $3: 1$ ( $3$ tall $: 1$ dwarf). When $F_{2}$-generation is selfpollinated, some of the tall plants produced the tall plants $(TT)$ only and the other tall plants produced the tall and dwarf plants and dwarf plants produced only dwarf plants. When tall $F_{2}$ plants are selfed, only tall plants are produced in regeneration.
