Q. Using equipartition of energy, the specific heat (in $J \,kg^{-1}\,K^{-1}$ of aluminium at room temperature can be estimated to be (atomic weight of aluminium $= 27$)

JEE MainJEE Main 2015Kinetic Theory

Solution:

Dulong and Petit found that the heat capacity of a mole of many solid substances is about $3 R$, that is about $25\, J / K\, 1$ mole of $AC$ is equivalent to $27\, g$
Therefore, specific heat in $\frac{ J }{ kg\, K }$ is given by
$s=\frac{25}{27 \times 10^{-3}}=\frac{25000}{27}=925 \frac{ J }{ kg\, K }$
