Q. Two slits in Young’s double slit experiment have widths in the ratio $81:1$. The ratio of the amplitudes of light waves is

Wave Optics

Solution:

Width ratio, $\frac{\beta_{1}}{\beta_{2}} = \frac{I_{1}}{I_{2}} = \frac{81}{1}$
$\therefore $ Amplitude ratio, $\frac{A_{1}}{A_{2}} = \sqrt{\frac{I_{1}}{I_{2}}}$
$ = \sqrt{\frac{81}{1}} $
$= 9 : 1$
