Q. Two masses of $10 \, kg$ and $5 \, kg$ are suspended from a rigid support as shown in the figure. The system is pulled down with a force of $150 \, N$ attached to the lower mass. The string attached to the support breaks and the system accelerates downwards.

Question

In case the force continues to act, the tension acting between the two masses is

Solution:

After string breaks, the acceleration of block will be
$\text{a}=\frac{150 + 15 \times 10}{15}=20\text{ m s}^{- 2}$
Solution
$150+50-\text{T}=5\times 20$
$\text{T}=100\text{N}$
