Q. Two blocks of masses $0.2\, kg$ and $0.5\, kg$ which are placed $22 \, m$ apart on a rough horizontal surface $(\mu=0.5)$ are acted upon by two forces of magnitude $3 \, N$ each as shown in the figure at time $t=0$. Then the time $t$ (in $s$) at which they collide with each other isPhysics Question Image

Laws of Motion

Solution:

$a_{1}=\frac{F-f_{1}}{m_{1}}=\frac{F-\mu m_{1} g}{m_{1}}=10\, m / s ^{2} ;$
$a_{2}=\frac{-F+\mu m_{2} g}{m_{2}}=-1 \,m / s ^{2}$
$\therefore S=\frac{1}{2} a_{\text{ rel }} \cdot t^{2}$
$ \Rightarrow 22=\frac{1}{2}[10-(-1)] t^{2}$
$ \Rightarrow t=2\, s$
