Q. The solubility of $ AgCl $ in moles per litre when its solubility product is $ 1.56\times 10^{-10} $ at $ 25^{\circ}C $ is :

AFMCAFMC 2001

Solution:

$AgCl$ is a sparingly soluble salt. Let its solubility be $s\, mol / L$.
$AgCl \rightleftharpoons \underset{s}{Ag ^{+}}+\underset{s}{ Cl }^{-}$
Solubility product $K_{ sp }$
$K_{ sp }=s \times s $
$s=\sqrt{K_{ sp }}=\sqrt{1.56 \times 10^{-10}} $
$s=1.249 \times 10^{-5} mol / L$
