Solution:

Aldehydes which do not contain an $ \alpha $ -hydrogen atom, treated with concentrated alkali solution to give alcohol and salt of carboxylic acid is called Cannizaro reaction.
Example - Benzaldehyde reacts with alkali $ (NaOH) $ to give benzyl alcohol and sodium benzoate.
