Q. The number of moles of oxalate ions oxidized by one mole of $MnO^{-}_{4}$ ion is

Redox Reactions

Solution:

The balanced equation is
$5C_{2}O_{4}^{2-}+ 26H^{+}+ 2MnO_{4}^{-} \to+ 5CO_{2}+ 18H_{2}O + 2Mn^{2+}$
Now 2 moles of $MnO_{4}^{-}$ requires $C_{2}O_{4}^{-2} = 5$ mol
$\therefore $ 1 mol of $MnO_{4}^{-} \to \frac{5}{2} mol$
