Gene mutation that involve the substitution, deletion or insertion of a single base pair are called point mutation. Sickle cell anaemia is caused due to base replacement leading to replacement of 6th amino acid in the B-chain. Glutamic acid is replaced by valine and causes sickle cell anaemia.
