Q. The molarity of $30$ mass $\% H _{2} SO _{4}$ solution of density $1.14 \,g\, cm ^{-3}$ is ______.

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

Volume of $100 \,g$ solution, $V =\frac{ m }{ d }$

$=\frac{100\, g }{1.14\,g \,cm ^{-3}}=87.72 cm ^{3}$

Amount of sulphuric acid in $100\, g$ solution $=30\, g$

$\therefore $ No. of moles of sulphuric acid $(n)=\frac{m}{M}=\frac{30.0 \,g}{98\, g\, mo l^{-1}}$

$= 0.306 $

Molarity of sulphuric acid,

$M=\frac{n}{V}=\frac{0.306\, mol }{87.72 \times 10^{-3} \,L }$

$=3.49\, mol ^{-1} \,L$
