Q. The magnetic moments of two bar magnets of same size are in the ratio $1: 2$. When they are placed one over the other with their similar poles together, then their period of oscillation in a magnetic field is $3 s$. If one of the magnets is reversed, then the period of oscillation in the same field will be

Magnetism and Matter

Solution:

$T \propto \frac{1}{\sqrt{M}}$
$\frac{3}{T}=\sqrt{\frac{M_{1}-M_{2}}{M_{1}+M_{2}}} $
$\Rightarrow \frac{3}{T}=\sqrt{\frac{2-1}{2+1}}$
$ \Rightarrow T=3 \sqrt{3}$
