Q. The energy of an electron in the first Bohr orbit of H-atom is $ -13.6\,eV $ . The possible energy value(s) of the excited state(s) for electron in Bohr orbits of hydrogen is(are):

Haryana PMTHaryana PMT 2001

Solution:

$E_{1}$ for $H=-13.6\, eV$.
$E_{n}$ for $H=\frac{E_{1}}{n^{2} e}$
$E_{3}=\frac{-13.6}{9}=-1.51 \,eV$
$E_{4}=\frac{-13.6}{16}=-0.85$ and so on
Thus, $E_{2}=\frac{-13.6}{4}=-3.4\, eV$
