Solution:

If emitter is $P$ type, it is connected to positive plate of battery, and base $N$ type is connected to negative plate of battery, hence we can say that emitter base is forward biased
Similarly if collector is $P$ type, it is connected to negative plate of battery, and base $N$ type is connected to positive plate of battery, hence we can say that collector base is reversed biased
