Q. The correct bond order of $S-O$ bond in decreasing order is

Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure

Solution:

As electronegativity of halogen attached with sulphur increases, sulphur becomes more electron deficient and hence its tendency to get electrons from oxygen through $p \pi-d \pi$ bonding also increases, i.e., extent of $p \pi-d \pi$ bonding increases and hence bond order also increases.
