Q.
The colloid osmotic pressure of blood is due to
AMUAMU 2001
Solution:
Proteins are present in plasma. Mostly the proteins present in plasma are of 3 types:
Serum albumin constitutes about $50 \%$ of the total protein and produces 75-80\% of colloidal osmotic pressure. The protein binds plasma calcium and some fatty acids.
Globulins are $16 \%$ of total plasma protein and are of 3 types- $\alpha, \beta$ and $\gamma$-globulin. $\alpha$-globulin is involved in transporting thyroxine and bilirubin. $\beta$-globulin binds vitamin-A, D and $K$, cholesterol and ions. $\gamma$-globulins are immunoglobulins.
Fibrinogen forms fibrin during blood clotting. Blood protein also helps to retain water in blood and functions as pH buffer,
