Q. The charge present on $2.8 g$ of $N ^{3-}$ in coulombs is

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

Number of ions in $2.8 \,g$ of $N ^{3-}=\frac{2.8}{14} \times 6.023 \times 10^{23}$

$=12.046 \times 10^{22}$

One nitride ion contains 3 unit electronic charge i.e.

$3 \times 1.6 \times 10^{-19}$ coulomb

$\therefore $ Total charge present on $2.8 \,g \,N ^{3-}$ ions

$=12.046 \times 10^{22} \times 3 \times 1.6 \times 10^{-19}=5.78 \times 10^{4}$ coulombs
