Q. The bond energies in $NO, NO^+$ and $NO^-$ follow the order

Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure

Solution:

Bond order $NO = \frac{ 1}{2} (10 - 5) = 2.5$
Bond order in $NO^+ = \frac{ 1}{2} (10 - 4) = 3.0$
Bond order in $NO^- = \frac{1}{2} (10 - 6) = 2.0$
Since bond energies are directly related to bond order. Therefore correct order of increasing bond energies is $NO^+ > NO > NO$
