Q. The basicity of aniline is less than that of cyclohexylamine. This is due to

JIPMERJIPMER 2012Organic Chemistry – Some Basic Principles and Techniques

Solution:

$-NH_2$ has a $+R$ effect, it donates electrons to the benzene ring. As a result of resonance, the lone pair of electrons on the $N$ atom gets delocalized over the benzene ring and thus it is less readily available for protonation. Hence aniline is a weaker base than cyclohexyl amine.
