Q.
Tert-butyl bromide on treatment with sodium methoxide yields
Alcohols Phenols and Ethers
Solution:
Tert-butyl bromide first form stable tert-butyl carbonium ion which further stabilises by loss of one proton $\left( H ^{+}\right)$ from neighbouring '$C$' atom and forms a multiple bond. Thus isobutylene is formed as major product.
