Q. Ramesh purchased a TV for $₹ 4000$. He paid $₹ 200$ for its transportation. If he sold the TV for $₹4080$, then calculate his profit or loss percentage.

Percentages, Profit and Loss, Discount and Partnership

Solution:

Price at which the TV was bought $=₹ 4000$
Overheads in the form of transportation $=₹ 200$
$\therefore$ Total cost price of the $T V=(4000+200)$ $=₹ 4200$
Given: Selling price of the $T V=₹ 4080$ $\because SP < CP \Rightarrow$ There is a loss.
The amount of loss $= CP - SP =4200-4080$ $=₹ 120$.
$\therefore$ Loss percentage $=\frac{\text { Loss }}{ CP }(100) \%$ $=\frac{120}{4200}(100) \%=\frac{100}{35} \%=2.85 \%$.
$\therefore$ Ramesh incurred a loss of $2.85 \%$.
