Q. Phosgene, $COCl_{2}$ , a poisonous gas decomposes according to the equation

$COCl_{2}\left(g\right)\rightleftharpoons CO\left(g\right)+Cl_{2}\left(g\right)$

If $K_{c}=0.083$ at $900^\circ C$ , what is the value of $K_{c}?$

Solution:

$K_{p}=K_{c}\left(R T\right)^{\Delta n_{g}}$

where $\Delta n_{g}=\left(1 + 1\right)-1=1,R,=0.082\text{ L atm mo}\left(\text{l}\right)^{- 1}K^{- 1}$ and $T=1173$ K

So $K _{ p }= K _{ c }( RT )^{1}=0.083 \times 0.082 \times 1173$
