Q.
Ozone layer is depleted by :
Haryana PMTHaryana PMT 2006
Solution:
Ozone layer present in stratosphere protect the animals from UV-radiations of sun light. In stratosphere ozone is being formed and photo dissociated.
The chlorofluorocarbons methane and nitrous oxide cause depletion of ozone layer $SO _{2}$ and $NO _{3}$ react with the moisture (water vapour) of atmosphere and from $H _{2} SO _{4}$ and $HNO _{3}$ respectively, the $H _{2} SO _{4}$ and $HNO _{3}$ cause acid rain High concentration of $CO _{2}$ in the atmosphere results in green-house effect
i.e., the $CO _{2}$ layer, allowing solar radiation to pass in but preventing long wave heat radiation to pass out $CO _{2}$ (carbon monoxide) is produced due to incomplete combustion metallurgical operations and naturally by plants as well as animals.
The high concentration of $CO$ resulting in giddiness, headache, decreased vision cardiovascular malfunction and as phyxia Nitrogen oxides $\left( NO _{2}, N _{2} O , N _{2} O _{5}, NO \right)$ are produced naturally through biological and non-biological activities from nitrates, nitrites electric storms etc.
