Q. One mole of an ideal gas is expanded isothermally and reversibly to half of its initial pressure. AS for the process in $J\, K^{-1}\, mol^{-1}$ is
[$\ell$n 2 = 0.693 and = 8.314, J/(mol K)]

AIEEEAIEEE 2012Thermodynamics

Solution:

For isothermal process $\left(\Delta T = 0\right)$
$\Delta S = R\,\ell n \frac{P_{1}}{P_{2}} = 8.314 \,\ell n\, 2$
$= 8.314\times 0.693 = 5.76 JK^{-1} mol^{-1}$
