T. H. Morgan and his group is credited with elucidating the role of chromosome in heredity led. He described linkages among genes in chromosome. He worked with Drosophila melanogaster and it was suitable for his work cause -
They have a short life span of approx. two weeks and sexes are easy to differentiate. Also, they produce large number progenies in a single mating process that help with genetic studies. Their variations are easy to recognize and visible under low power microscopes.
