Photosynthesis in Higher Plants

Solution:

The $Z$-scheme of electron transport is non-cyclic photophosphorylation. It involves both $PS-I$ and $PS-II$. It is the scheme of transfer of electrons, starting from the $PS-II$, uphill to the acceptor, down the electron transport chain to $PS-I$, excitation of electrons, in the reaction centre of $PS-I$ transfer to another acceptor and finally downhill to $NADP ^{+}$reducing it to $NADPH + H ^{+}$. This scheme of electron transfer is called $Z$-scheme due to its characteristic shape.
