Q. In Young’s double slit experiment a minima is observed when path difference between the interfering beam is :
BITSAT
BITSAT 2006
A
$\lambda $
13%
B
$1.5\,\lambda $
60%
C
$2\, \lambda $
17%
D
$2.25\, \lambda $
10%
Solution:
The condition for minimum intensity, when the path difference is a multiple of half wavelengths,
i.e., $d \sin \theta=\left(n+\frac{1}{2}\right) \lambda$
So for the minima, $n =1,$
$\Rightarrow d \sin \theta=1.5\, \lambda$
