Q. In the Rosenmund's reaction,
$RCOCl + H_2 \xrightarrow{Pd/BaSO_4} RCHO + HCl$
Here $BaSO_4$

ManipalManipal 2014

Solution:

In the Rosenmund's reaction, acid chlorides are converted to corresponding aldehydes by catalytic reduction.
The reaction is carried out by passing through a hot solution of the acid chloride in the presence of $Pd$ deposited over $BaSO_4$.
Here, barium sulphate decrease the activity of palladium.
$RCOCl + H_2 \xrightarrow{Pd/BaSO_4} RCHO + HCl$
