Q. In cyclic structure of $\left(S O_{3}\right)_{x}$ if $x$ is number of $SO_{3}$ molecules involved in cycle formation and y is the number of $sp^{3}$ hybridised $S$ -atoms. What is the sum of $x+y$ ?

Solution:

Sulphur trioxide exists as a cyclic trimer, in which each sulphur undergo $sp^{3}$ hybridisation. In this molecule, each sulphur is connected to four oxygen atoms. There three sulphur trioxide molecules involved in the formation six membered rings and all three sulphur atoms are $sp^{3}$ hybridised.
Solution
$x = 3, y = 3$
So $x + y = 6$
