Q. If there are no heat losses, the heat released by the condensation of $x$ gram of steam at $100^\circ C$ into the water at $100^\circ C$ can be used to convert $y$ gram of ice at $0^\circ C$ into the water at $100^\circ C$ . Then the ratio of $y:x$ is nearly

Solution:

$\left(y \times 80\right)+\left(y \times 1 \times 100\right)=\left(x \times 540\right)$
$\Rightarrow 180y=540x$
$\Rightarrow \, \frac{y}{x}=3$
$\Rightarrow \, y:x=3:1$
