Q. If the $ Z{{n}^{2+}}/Zn $ electrode is diluted to 100 times then the change in emf :

MGIMS WardhaMGIMS Wardha 2006

Solution:

We know; $ {{E}_{cell}}=\frac{0.059}{2}\log \frac{1}{C} $ where C = 100 times $ {{E}_{cell}}=-\frac{0.059}{2}\log \frac{1}{100} $ $ =-\frac{0.059}{2}\times -2 $ $ 0.059\text{ }V=59\text{ }mV $ Thus, if the $ Z{{n}^{2+}}/Zn $ electrode is diluted to 100 times than the emf is increase of 59 mV.
